646f9e108c A girl is in love with a gas station attendant and sees him against her father's wishes. The father is the sheriff and shortly after a confrontation with the boy friend, he is killed by escaped convicts and the daughter is kidnapped. Everyone, including the deputy, is convinced that the boy friend committed the murder and ran away with the girl. This sets up a chase of the convicts by the boy friend and of the boy friend by the police. In the desert area of the Southwestern USA, Sarah Jane Bromwell is in love with Johnny Del Grissom, a racing enthusiast. Sarah's father, Sheriff Ben Bromwell, doesn't approve of it. A gang of escaped convicts, led by D. J. Wheeler, are stopped for speeding by Ben, who happens to have Sarah with him. After Wheeler kills Ben and kidnaps Sarah, Johnny pursues them. Deputy Norm Babbitt, who is also in love with Sarah, finds Ben's body, and Norm assumes that Johnny is the killer. However, Johnny later convinces Norm otherwise, and enlists Norm's help. But Norm gets killed, leaving Johnny on his own to rescue Sarah from Wheeler. This could have been a really strong 8, but there are some poor editing choices or script problems that don't build the suspense of how the two stories will collide; it takes way too long to get the reason for the chase initiated; and I can't believe a parked car can bash through a cement wall in REVERSE. So close, and yet so far….. First off, "Black Cat Run" will be a totally pleasant surprise. It has real entertainment value. In a way it kind of reminds me of the movie "Breakdown", with Kurt Russell. Both films involve a relentless pursuit to save a girl fromsadistic, quite unhinged villain. In "Breakdown it was J.T. Walsh. Here it's Peter Greene. Special mention must be made of the excellent camera work and stunts. Also, the desert locations are used to great advantage. Character development is good and the story moves along quite nicely. This film is not for the squeamish, the violence is brutal and quite graphic. Highly recommended, and very re- watchable. - MERK
